Safety-focused pet safety resources

Editorial Policy

How we research, review, and update the resources you read on SafeForPets.

Sources we trust

Every resource starts with primary, peer-reviewed, or authoritative sources. Our core references include:

  • ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center
  • Pet Poison Helpline
  • FDA Center for Veterinary Medicine
  • AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association)
  • Peer-reviewed veterinary journals (JAVMA, JFMS, etc.)
  • Manufacturer technical data sheets, recall notices, and ingredient lists

We avoid forum posts, anecdote-only sources, and content farms.

Veterinary review

Resources covering toxicity thresholds, symptoms, or treatment guidance are reviewed against current veterinary consensus before publication. Where evidence is mixed or evolving, we say so explicitly rather than picking a side.

Plain-English answers

Our goal is to give you a useful answer in the first paragraph. Detail, caveats, and citations follow for owners who want to dig deeper. Every resource is written assuming you are not a veterinary professional.

Updates and corrections

We refresh resources when new research, product reformulations, recalls, or veterinary consensus emerge. If you spot something that looks wrong or out of date, email [email protected] — we read every message and publish corrections promptly.

What we do not do

  • We do not diagnose your individual pet — that is your veterinarian's job.
  • We do not accept payment to recommend products or brands.
  • We do not run sponsored content disguised as editorial.

Know what's safe before it matters.
